Meet Gemma!
Gemma is a 3 yr old Shar-Pei/Pug mix. Female, spayed and up-to-date on all shots. Gemma is a very sweet girl; the staff here absolutely love her! We currently have her listed as not liking other dogs or cats. However, we feel with proper training and obedience she will do just fine around other dogs. She is still a puppy at heart as she was never wanted during her first year of life as she was bounced around to 3 different homes so she never got established nor was she ever trained on good behavior.
We did found out that she is VERY smart and will be a gem for obedience (no pun intended!). Gemma has been a very special girl during her two years with us. The very first few days we received her, we found out she required a lot of medical attention. She had a cherry eye and double entropion eyelids (this is where the eye lashes grow inward towards the eye, this is very painful and can lead to blindness). She also was never spayed and was in heat. Luckily, we had a vet that agreed to take on all her medical needs for us, all at the same time! He took care of the cherry eye and eyelids and well as spayed her. She had a long recovery process but has been great ever since, however we found out that she is a special needs pup. We were told by the vet that she was born without any natural tear production. So, she requires eye drops/ointment in both eyes for the rest of her life. L Because of her puppy like behavior we are looking for families with children that are slightly older and because of her special needs we are looking for New Jersey residents only or a rescue group that could take her to help her get properly socialized.
